The "brain" created by researchers unites a computer, scanning laser that provides 3-D vision, a lot of various sensors and servo control units that control the movements of the robot. Another feature of the module is that along with the traditional algorithms and means of navigation, creators have given the computer Intellectual system that can independently analyze the situation and make decisions. In addition to the laser module for navigation it uses sonar and infrared sensors.

Using all of the above possibilities, the module CRB100 can build a map of the surrounding space and pave the way for getting to the target destination. If any object or a person appears on the robot's path unexpectedly, the module will detect this and avoid the crossing trajectories of movement.

Science-fictional film "Avatar"(2009) is a joint US-British product, filmed by James Cameron. In its first showing weekend "Avatar" has collected 21 million dollars in Russia, 73 million in the U.S.A., and $ 232 million in total all over the world.This film is called a revolutionary breakthrough in technology of film industry. It was the first usage specially developed motion capture systems (performance capture).

Previously when filming 3D movies, motion capture systems was common. Cameron shared it while filming and camera, placed on the head, was used to capture facial expressions and other separate camera filmed body movements. This enabled the absolute realism of the characters: suspended equipment recorded the facial expressions, movements of muscles, eye movement with accuracy unprecedented before (with this method approximately 95% of the actor's actions sent to their digital copies). A remote camera gave the crew a much broader space for motion capture, comparing with the standard filming equipment.

Unlike motion capture systems used before, where the digital environment was added after the actors' movements were captured, a new virtual Cameron’s camera allowed him to trace on a monitor interaction of virtual copies of the actors with the digital world of cinema in real time. Director could regulate and control the scenes, just as in ordinary filming with ordinary actors. The virtual camera the director sees not actors on a background of film studios, but the characters in the tropical forest.

The new approach allows the crew to refuse partly from services of make-up and technicians that are responsible for the creation of images of aliens, werewolves, witches, demons and other characters. Ltd. presented a new model - robot Geminoid-F in Osaka (Japan), its mission is to transmit all the complex expressions of human face as realistically as possible. For this, the rubbers cover of Geminoid-F’s "face” is equipped with an impressive array of systems to ensure its maximum flexibility. As the author says, his robot is able to express such delicate details of facial expressions, that can’t be conveyed by any other robot.

Comparing with its original version, creators of robot Geminoid-F went to considerable simplification of its design. First of all, It made the project cheaper so now it costs about 110 thousand dollars, and secondly, reduced the usage of large air compressor and junction boxes, that were located near the robot previously. But despite this, thanks to employees of the company Kokoro Co. Scientists "Pull" Images From The Brain

Researchers at the Japanese ATR Computational Neuroscience Laboratories have created an incredible new technology capable of retreaving images from the human brain and transferring them on the screen.

Scientists state that the further development of technology will not only improve the quality of transferring data, but also provide an opportunity to display our dreams.

Using a special device (abbreviated called fMRI), researchers analyzed the changes in cerebral blood flow of patients, and thus recreated images shown previously.

In the first stage experts showed a series of images to a man and traced changes in the direction of blood flow that had occurred in his cerebral cortex. The subjects were showing 400 random black and white images with the size of 10x10 pixels. Each illustration was demonstrated for 12 seconds. During that process fMRI was monitoring changes in brain activity and the computer was making calculations and comparing the results with the available digital data from the images.

Then the subject was showed a set of images (for example, the word "neuron"), and monitor displayed a ready-made words in real time, relying on data on changes in the brain.

So far system is able to display only simple black and white images, but Dr. Kang Cheng, the researcher of Institute of Brain RIKEN, is convinced that improving of the algorithm of computation can be achieved and will make possible to display color images.

"This is a real breakthrough in our understanding of brain activity," says Cheng. "In about 10 years it might become possible to “read” the human thoughts."

The researchers suggest that the future of this technology can be used in sphere of art and design. People will be able to draw a picture in seconds simply by imaging it. This technology, providing a "window" in a man's head would also be useful in medicine, for instance in psychiatry.

The Leading Researcher of ATR Yukiyasu Kamitani said that those principles could be applied to the senses. In the future we shall be able to understand the feelings and decipher the complex emotional states."

Laptop with Transparent OLED-Display from Samsung

South Korean company Samsung presents the world's first notebook with a transparent display. Moreover, this feature of the notebook provides users with the ability to work and even to watch videos with bright and sharp picture.

The prototype of portable computer, the screen is in working off state is transparent, and in a working state demonstrates high-quality video, Samsung needed to demonstrate the advantages of OLED-technology, which the company intends to apply widely in different devices.

As it known, OLED-displays are built on organic light-emitting diodes. In comparison to ordinary liquid-crystal screens they consume less electric power and differ in the better quality of image.

Samsung laptop has a transparent screen, which allows to pass through the areas where the level of light is approximately 40%. And this is not the only gadget from Samsung, that uses a perspective OLED-technology.

At the same show CES-2010 South Korean company introduced multimedia player IceTouch with two-inch transparent touch screen and digital badge, looking very much like an ordinary player.

However, a thin transparent plate with a picture of it’s owner and it’s data is actually the mentioned OLED-screen information on which can be changed if necessary. In addition, digital badge can be used as a USB flash drive for data storage.

Digilog Will Make the 3D Books

The South Korean scientists from Institute of Science and Technique adapted 3 - D technology for books, and they did this so successfully, that the personages of those books literally jump out from pages.

For the experiments they chose two books for children with the Korean folk stories, full of dragons, heroes, jumping over through mountains and other fairy-tale personages.

Basic concept of technology is that the pages of book are equipped with sensors which in combination with the special glasses form 3 - D animation for readers. If users incline or turn a book, animation, in turn, similarly changes position.

It took about three years for scientists to create special software for this project. The creators of book consider that later similar technology will definitely find application in different areas of everyday life, however it will not happen in the nearest future. It will take time for products based on this technology to become available to a mass audience.

ARM Will Release an Alternative to iPad

ARM plans to release more than fifty new iPad-like products in 2010.

IDG News Service – launching Apple's iPad release will clear the way for many competing products this year, ARM executive stated, predicting not less than than fifty tablet PC devices will be released globally.

The coming flow of tablets has inspired ARM, Intel's nearest competitor in the sphere of mobile microprocessors, to rent more exhibition area at the Computex trade show of electronics held in Taipei this year to present the devices, together with others electronic devices that use ARM processing cores.

During a Taipei press conference, the global mobile computing ODM manager of ARM, Roy Chen, said, the first release tablets will be implemented in the second quarter and added that much more else expected in the third quarter.

He noticed that many tablet-like PC devices will be made in China, but rivals everywhere plan to start tablets this year too, including the largest telecommunications network operators. He declined to voice those companies.

ARM presented two tablet devices at the news conference in Taipei, both working Google's Android mobile operation system.

There is the other tablet with a smaller size of screen than the device of Compal Electronics, It’s name is Armadillo. It also equipped with ARM cores in chips produced by Freescale Semiconductor, and used the Android OS, but was on display showing a fast running Japanese software maker’s system, Ubiquitous. The software named QuckBoot and its working in a moment.
